LONDON — It was such a lovely moment. Six-year-old Maisie Gregory, resplendent in her finest traditional dress and clutching a posy of pretty flowers, curtseying for Queen Elizabeth II. The Queen, in turn, remarking that Maisie looked "very pretty" and saying: "God bless."
Then a soldier went and smacked Maisie in the face.
The accidental wallop took place Thursday at the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff while the Queen was in town to present the Royal Welsh regiment with their new colours.
Wales Online reporter Ruth Mosalski caught it on camera. Read more...More about Uk, Queen, Queen Elizabeth, Us World, and Videos
Former International Monetary Fund chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn has been cleared Friday of aggravated pimping charges that had been brought against him
Friday's verdict closes four years of legal drama. Ten others were acquitted as well. The economist, known widely as DSK, had faced up to 10 years in prison and a 1.5 million-euro ($1.7 million) fine if convicted.
Strauss-Kahn had admitted taking part in the orgies but said he didn't know the women involved were prostitutes.
It's not illegal to pay for sex in France, but it's against the law to solicit or to run a prostitution business.
Strauss-Kahn had told the court the parties were much-needed "recreational sessions". In often sordid testimony, the women described sometimes brutal get-togethers that, they said, were not fun for them at all. Read more...More about France, Us World, and Dominque Strauss Kahn
Creeping vines and other flora have enveloped a small, formerly inhabited fishing village on Shengshan Island roughly 40 miles east of Shanghai, which is part of the Shengsi Islands, a chain of islands in China’s Zhejiang province.
The village along the northern bay of Shengshan Island was abandoned after its residents, mostly fishermen, left in the early 1990s. Take a look below to see what remains of this lush, green ghost town.

An Australian woman apparently owes the state's public transport organisation A$2.7 million. That is one expensive tram trip.
Melbourne commuter Sarah Cole tweeted an image of her myki public transport card receipt on Thursday, which shows a balance of -$2,684,350. The 36-year-old discovered the heart-dropping inaccuracy when she checked her balance at a station
Not being able to afford the "ridiculous" debt, Cole's main concern is being sent to prison, she jokingly told The Age
"I don't want to go to jail. When Alan Bond went to jail he had debts in the billions," she said. "Maybe it will be a nice retreat and I will come out a hardened white collar criminal." Read more...More about Australia, Us World, Melbourne, and Myki

LONDON — Touche the tortoise has been test driving his new wheels, and he can hit some serious speed.
The creature, who sadly had a leg removed after an accident in Bristol last week, has had part of a toy car fitted to the underside of his shell to help him get around.
He underwent the procedure on Friday at Highcroft Veterinary Hospital in Whitchurch, Bristol, and his owner, Lisa Purnell, says he's "completely relaxed with his new mode of transport, zooming around the garden as if nothing has happened."
Vet Sonya Miles explained the thinking behind the operation, which saw the car part attached with a special resin. "We decided to attach the wheel to avoid him traumatising the underside of his shell by dragging his back end," she said. Read more...More about Uk, Watercooler, Videos, Tortoise, and Bristol

Twitter sent shockwaves throughout Silicon Valley on Thursday when it announced that Dick Costolo was stepping down as CEO, and cofounder Jack Dorsey would fill the role as interim chief executive. Costolo's last day with the company is July 1, although he will remain on Twitter's board of directors
For his part, Costolo explained the move was his call and that he initiated conversations with several board members about creating a CEO succession plan at the end of 2014. But it's hard to believe his departure wasn't influenced by pressure from investors, who punished Twitter's stock over more recent challenges like stagnant user growth, user retention and disappointing results from its direct response advertising business Read more...More about Twitter, Jack Dorsey, Silicon Valley, Dick Costolo, and Tech

After their Beagle Moe passed away in the beginning of April, Mary Architzel Westbrook and her 3-year-old son Luke started writing him letters, addressed to “Moe Westbrook, Doggie Heaven, Cloud 1,” according to her essay in Distinction Magazine
Typically, Westbrook who is from Norfolk, Virginia, took the letters out of her mailbox after Luke went to bed, but one night she forgot. Two weeks later, Mary found an unstamped message in her mailbox. The return address simply read, "From Moe."
Westbrook assumed that the letter would be tossed away, but someone at the post office had a much better idea Read more...More about Dogs, Watercooler, Conversations, Inspiring, and Feel Good
Now that developers finally have their hands on a beta of iOS 9, rumors on potential upgrades for the next iPhone are making their way out into the open.
As reported by SlashGear, developer Hamza Sood was playing with a beta of iOS 9 when he discovered a few lines of code that indicate the next iPhone's front-facing camera will have a 1080p resolution, not to mention able to capture 240fps slow-motion video and panoramas. This theoretical upgrade would make the front-facing camera on the next iPhone as good as the rear-facing one on the iPhone 6. Read more...More about Mobile, Gadgets, Apple, Tech, and Apple Iphone

Ever since the European Space Agency's Philae lander made a bumpy landing on a comet in deep space in November 2014, mission managers have been searching for the washing machine-sized probe on the craggy body's surface.
Scientists have been pouring over images beamed to Earth by the Rosetta spacecraft orbiting Comet 67P to try to locate Philae's final landing place, and now they have at least narrowed its landing area down to one part of the comet's surface
Philae had a rougher landing than initially planned, and the little spacecraft may have traveled as far as a kilometer, about 0.6 miles, from where it touched down on the comet initially, the European Space Agency (ESA) said in an update Thursday Read more...More about Us World, Us, Comet, Space, and Rosetta
Outgoing Twitter CEO Dick Costolo was standing on the precipice, surveying an uncertain Twitter future, when activist investor Chris Sacca came along and all but pushed him over
It would be too easy to say Sacca led directly to Costolo's resignation — but after the investor's 8,500 word screed, Costolo may well have been hanging on by his fingernails.
On Thursday, Costolo lost purchase on the cliff and tumbled out of the CEO slot, a position he’s held since 2010. Founder Jack Dorsey is the interim CEO starting July 1. If you were looking for cause, it’s pretty simple: lack of user growth, not enough revenue growth and a slumping stock price. Sacca’s diatribe, which has a few good suggestions buried in it, added fuel to that fire Read more...More about Jack Dorsey, Dick Costolo, Social Media, and Twitter

The lush, bushy beard, as we all know it, has succumbed to a swift death and there's now a rampant fear that the lumbersexual may be at the brink of extinction. Blame it on the times, the summer, the melting glaciers or those yuccies. Whatever the case, it's clear that we're living in a different era, one in which millennials are opting for a sleeker, cleaner and minimal look

Twitter shocked many on Thursday by announcing that CEO Dick Costolo is stepping down on July 1 and will be replaced by Jack Dorsey, one of Twitter's cofounders and its first CEO from the early days.
