DANNEMORA, N.Y. — Investigators believe a prison employee had agreed to be the getaway driver in last weekend's escape by two convicted killers, but she didn't show up, a person close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Thursday.
The person said that was one reason the manhunt was focused on the woods only a few miles from the maximum-security Clinton Correctional Facility. The person was not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Nevertheless, Simpsons fans felt betrayed and stormed Twitter to express their disapproval of the decision. In hopes to dispel any rumors about the TV couple, the official Simpsons Twitter account posted several pictures hinting at Homer and Marge staying together. LONDON — How do you respond to sexist comments if you're a female scientist who has been told that you should be in a single-sex lab because male scientists might fall in love with you? You mock them on Twitter, of course.
Female scientists have been tweeting photos of themselves (and some historical figures) with the hashtag #distractinglysexy in response to Sir Tim Hunt's comments on Tuesday. He told a conference in South Korea that the "trouble with girls" is they fall in love with you, you fall in love with them and that then when they're criticised, they cryScience, Twitter Campaign, Us World, Conversations, and Gender Equality
It may be time to stop worrying about the robot uprising and begin thinking how we can prepare robot rescue teams for the next earthquake, tsunami or nuclear disaster.
Last week, 24 robots — programmed and built by teams from around the world — gathered in Pomona, California, to accept a challenge from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The quest: Could each of these semi-autonomous robots complete eight tasks in a simulated disaster environment (a nuclear accident) in under an hour?
Teams have been getting ready for the DARPA Robotics Challenge for years, competing in trials, retrofitting robots and building their own simulated tasks to try and prepare for a competition where many of the tasks were only loosely sketched out. Those tasks — climbing stairs, traversing rubble, turning on power, drilling holes in the wall, opening doors and walking through them, and driving cars (and getting out of those cars on their own) — are simple for humans, but challenging for automatons. You're not a size 6, you're a Lily
Manifesta, an athletic apparel company designed for all shapes, has replaced sizes on its website with flowers in order to encourage the idea that women are more than a number
It all started in 2011, when Rachel Blumenfeld, Manifesta CEO and founder, noticed that athletic wear was not designed for curvy women. Most of the clothes were created for a very specific slim woman, size 4 or 6. Companies who made athletic clothes were lagging on clothes for diverse proportions
Blumenfeld started taking body measurements of women of all different sizes and observing what people wanted to change about their athletic clothing. Read more...More about Fashion, Lifestyle, Body Positivity, Manifesta, and Athletic Clothing

RALEIGH, N.C. — A measure allowing some court officials to refuse to perform gay marriage responsibilities because of their religious beliefs became law in North Carolina on Thursday, with the state House voting to override the governor's veto of the bill.
The Senate had voted to do the same with Republican Gov. Pat McCrory's veto a week ago. Thursday's House vote was just over the three-fifths majority needed.
The law means some register of deeds workers who assemble licenses and magistrates to solemnize civil marriages can decide to stop performing all marriages if they hold a "sincerely held religious objection." Read more...More about Same Sex Marriage, North Carolina, Us World, Politics, and Us
